Microfat Transfers for Volumisation

Micro Fat Transfers for Volumisation

As we age, one of the things that we may notice, is the loss of volume in the face, as well as hands, and other areas. Loss of volume is often accompanied by loss of skin elasticity which can further concerns patients. The progressive effects of time on your skin, as well as changes in soft tissue, and other deeper structural components of the face and body bring about appearance changes that include changes in skin texture, loss of plumpness and volume especially in the face, and hands as well as in the female breast.

The affected areas appear more angular or bony, adding to the perception of aging. Gravity, bone thinning, decreased tissue elasticity and subcutaneous fat loss all exacerbate this. In respect of the face, for many who wanted to rejuvenate a more youthful appearance, a facelift was usually considered the go-to option, but that comes with high costs and lenthly recovery time, as well as pain and inconvenience to life in general. Recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of non-surgical procedures performed for facial rejuvenation. Men and women seeking alternatives to surgical procedures include those who require restoration of lost facial volume, those who wish to enhance normal facial features, and those who want to correct facial asymmetry.

Important factors in selecting a non-surgical treatment option include the advantages of a more immediate cosmetic result and a short recovery time. The Melrose Aesthetic Centre has been using Dermal Fillers for many years as part of its rejuvenation treatments, and now offers the option of Micro Fat Transfers for volumisation(Image for reference purposes only) *

Fat Transfer can also be done for body sculpting and contouring. In these cases, a larger amount of fat is used and a full Liposuction treatment is required to secure sufficient fat. Micro Fat Transfer can be done for body treatments including, but not limited to, breast enhancement and to the “butt”, also known as the Brazilian Butt Lift  to name a few. *

Why use fat?

Human fat has long been recognized as an ideal method for reshaping areas of the body, by removing it from one place and transferring it to another, but this was usually not related specifically to aesthetic procedures. The use of Hyaluronic based Dermal Fillers for facial reshaping and correcting facial volume loss has been in use for some time and has developed a reputation for being an easy, temporary solution to decreases in facial volume, reshaping noses and lips, and a host of other things. The chances of allergic reactions that can occur with synthetic Filler’s, or causing other problems is removed if your own fat is used, which is naturally compatible with your body.

How do you choose?

If you have considered undergoing a facial rejuvenation or body re-sculpting procedure but don’t think you are ready for a facelift or other form of plastic surgery, you may wish to investigate Micro Fat Transfers. This injection method of fat sculpting can restore attractive contours to your cheeks, chin, and under-eye area, add volume to your lips, volumisation of the breast and buttocks.

Unlike Dermal Filler injections, which will likely last up to 9 months, as the body reabsorbs it, most specialists agree that Micro Fat Transfers which settle and develop by about 6 months after treatment are generally much longer lasting. In addition to the volume effects, the long-lasting effects of skin rejuvenation and regeneration come about through the presence of stem cells located in the transferred fat. These stem cells and other tissue components bring about blood vessel formation and skin rejuvenation and regeneration. Our team will give you an in-depth explanation of how this all happens, but remember, aging can’t be stopped. *

The procedure and results

Because your own fat is used, Micro Fat Transfer requires three steps. The first step involves the gentle Lipo aspiration of some excess fat (such as that found in the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks). The second step involves the isolation and cleansing of the fat cells. The third and final step involves the injection of the fat cells into the targeted facial areas. Local light anaesthesia is used to remove the fat and a sedative is given pre-procedure to make you relaxed. Once the aspiration has been performed and the fat to be injected prepared, your Specialist at The Melrose Aesthetic Centre carefully injects the required quantity of fat into the areas of your face or body that require volumisation. After it is injected it will re-vascularize and plump up the area into which it was injected. There will be no incision or open wound, so no sutures will be required. Recovery is quick and simple and very little downtime is required, and normal activities can be resumed in a few days. * You should expect a little swelling and bruising in the treated areas, and the full effects only start to become visible after about fourteen days. Areas that can benefit from Micro Fat Transfers for volumisation are:

  • Temples
  • Cheeks
  • Under eye area
  • Brows
  • Chin
  • Around the mouth
  • The jawline
  • Repair of acne and trauma scars
  • Breasts
  • Buttocks
