Body Laser Hair Removal
Many people experience hair growth in areas where it causes them discomfort or embarrassment. Apart from being unsightly, it can also at times cause other problems such as ingrown hair or “razor bumps”. Shaving, waxing and plucking are some of the traditional techniques applied in hair removal, but unfortunately, none of these offers a long-term solution. The Melrose Aesthetic Centre offers Laser Hair Removal which is a more permanent solution to hair reduction. Our Laser Hair Removal treatment is safe and effective for all skin types.
When Do We Advise Against It?
Laser Hair Removal cannot be performed on a pregnant or lactating woman, sunburnt or tanned skin, or bleached, waxed or epilated skin. We advise that you do not perform any of these treatments at least ten days before Laser Hair Removal Treatment.
What Is The Typical Course Of Treatment?
Depending on the amount of hair to be removed, you may need to be treated about six to eight times at approximately four to six-week intervals. There are three phases of hair growth – anagen, catagen and telogen. Only hairs in the active growth, anagen, can be successfully treated.
Your specialist will discuss the treatment with you and decide if you need a topical anaesthetic cream. The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light from the Icon Palomar Aesthetic System or the Candela Gentle Laser Pro. Treatment time will depend upon the area treated. A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. However, since the sensation varies from individual to individual, a topical anaesthesia can be applied to you. Let your specialist know if you are very sensitive.
What Can You / Can’t You Expect From The Treatment?
To see the long last effects of Laser Hair Removal you will need to treat the area si to eight times at roughly four to six-week intervals. Following your treatment, you may notice redness and swelling for the first few hours. To reduce any discomfort we apply topical cream to the area and in addition, you may apply ice.
Not all of your hair will fall out after just one treatment, multiple sessions are required because of your hairs cycles and only actively growing hair are affected with each treatment.
After your first treatment, you may notice darkening in the area, dark pores and redness. After each successive treatment, you will notice that your hair will become finer and may take longer to come back. At the end of your full treatment plan, you may have a few odd regrowth hairs that we treat as a touch-up.
What Are The Unwanted Effects / Risks Of The Treatment?
After Laser Hair Removal you need to avoid or limit sun exposure to both natural sunlight and tanning beds. Always apply sunscreen to your skin when going into the sun.
